Escape From Firebase Kate – Vietnam War Hero Documentary

Vietnam, 1969: 21-year-old U.S. Army Special Forces Captain William Albracht is assigned command of Firebase Kate. It is his first command. The day he arrives the post comes under heavy attack. The severely outmanned and outgunned outpost will soon be overrun. Out of options, and against all odds, he leads a desperate late night escape. All but one man survives the escape.

This historical and inspirational documentary film project is in need of funding to provide for production and a release of the film in 2014. The film will be more than a simple historical depiction of the events that occurred. As we hear from many of the men who served at Firebase Kate, the film will capture the human drama and the heroic efforts undertaken to survive in dire circumstances. Nearly 50 years later, it’s important to make this story known to those familiar with the Vietnam War, as well as convey the significance of this story to a new generation.

The film is being produced by Storytellers International, an Iowa corporation and 501c3 non-profit charitable organization based in Davenport, Iowa. Paul Kakert, Director of the award-winning 2010 documentary ”Train to Nowhere: Inside an Immigrant Death Investigation” and Founder of Storytellers International, is the film’s Director.

Public donations will help produce this original documentary film and make it available to the largest audience possible. Please see the film website for more information, and to donate in support of the film.
